Confession of a winter enthusiast
I am a winter enthusiast. There, I said it. I still wake up excited to see snow. There is a good chance that I am more excited for a snow day than my three school-age kids. As a kid, I spent most winters outside soaking wet and sled riding. At 14, I learned to alpine ski and my appreciation for winter grew from there.
I am lucky enough to have lived and skied in Europe as well as the western United States. Now, don’t get me wrong I appreciate the mountains any time of year. But, covered in fresh powder is how I like my mountains.
Here is a small list of the ski mountains I have made tracks upon:
- Hidden Valley, Pennsylvania
- Seven Springs, Pennsylvania
- Laurel Mountain, Pennsylvania
- Nemacolin, Pennsylvania
- Wisp, Maryland
- Kissing Bridge, New York
- Timberline, West Virginia
- Canaan Valley, West Virginia
- Bryce Mountain, Virginia
- Breckenridge, Colorado
- Steamboat, Colorado
- Copper Mountain, Colorado
- Winter Park, Colorado
- Arapahoe Basin, Colorado
- Vail, Colorado
- Beaver Creek, Colorado
- Angel Fire, New Mexico
- Kitzbuhel, Austria
Hopefully I can double the size of this list in the next few years. We can always dream…
